Pets Are Inn: Our Process

Pets Are Inn makes special arrangements for your pet that far surpass the offerings of a traditional kennel. We carefully screen animal loving individuals and families to care for your dog/cat(s). These “Host Families” take your 4-legged companion into their home and give them the personal attention they are used to ... lots of love, petting, playing, walking, a warm comfortable place to sleep, and of course, the food you provide, served when and the way your pet likes it.

The only time your pet is put in a “kennel/crate” is if you provide one for sleeping and/or confinement when gone.

Your “Host Family” does their best to ensure that your dog/cat has a happy and pampered stay because we know your special family member deserves the best! There is no shortage of love and attention in our homes!

How It Works

Reservations are required and we ask that you allow ample time for us to make the property boarding arrangements. We recommend that you call earlier than normal for major holidays. Getting started:

  • We would conduct a 10-15 minute phone interview with you about your pet’s needs and behaviors, daily routine and other habits. We use this information to select an appropriate host to provide the most personalized care of your pet and we provide them with a copy of the intake information so they know how to care for her.

  • Lodging cost is based up on the type of pet you have and for dogs the rate is based upon age and weight. Rates are daily and charged in half day increments. (Half-day rates are assessed for afternoon pickups or morning returns.)

  • We would provide the mandatory round-trip transportation from your home to the host family. Each office has different pick up and drop off times and we do provide service on Sundays.

  • A $50 non-refundable per-pet deposit is required and it is subtracted from your final bill (for first-time clients, new pets, and peak season reservations), which can be applied to Visa or MasterCard.

Shot Requirements...

Please make sure that your pet’s shots are up-to-date as we do verify this with your vet. Pets Are Inn requires the following vaccinations to be current:

  • DHPL


  • RABIES for both cats and dogs.

  • Bordetella is recommended.

  • If your pet has allergic reactions to vaccinations we honor the titers test results. Normally, it takes about 6 weeks to obtain titers testing results.

What If...

Pets Are Inn has taken steps to make your pet’s stay a healthy and happy one. However, there is always the chance that your pet could become ill.

If medical attention is required, we will contact your veterinarian. If circumstances require more immediate action, we will contact the veterinarian closest to your pet’s “Host Family.” We have established affiliations with highly qualified veterinarians throughout the area. This ensures access to medical treatment 24 hours a day.

What to Send...

  • To avoid potential negative effects of diet changes, the owner is to supply an adequate amount of food and treats for the pet’s stay. Our “Host Family” will carefully follow your feeding instructions and respect your wishes regarding table food.

  • We ask that you send bowls, toys, bedding (sorry, your bed will not fit in our van!) and anything else you wish to provide so your pet has a comfortable stay with us

  • A leash that is in good condition without tears and fraying, walking collar/harness, if used, should be sent. (We do NOT recommend retractable leashes)

  • Medications — with adequate amount for the length of stay. Written Instructions for medications are a must.

  • Grooming tools are also welcome.

  • We ask that you share additional information about dog/cat(s) routine and habits in a personal note or letter to the “Host Family”.

  • For cats, in addition, to the above, litter, pan and scoop. If your cat is not de-clawed, then we strongly recommend that you send a scratching post or mat and clip the nails before we pick up your cat.

Transportation Provided...

As previously mentioned, we provide mandatory round trip pick-up and delivery for your pet(s). We find our customers are best served by having a pick-up and delivery “period” rather than an exact “clock time” arrangement. Transportation is scheduled for the block of time that most closely matches your departure and return times during a period that is convenient to both parties.

Our Pricing

There are Lodging and Transportation fees. The actual costs for lodging and transportation vary with location.

Lodging Rates

Lodging fees are based on the size and age of your dog and a flat rate for cats.

Daily rates are charge in half day increments. Pick up times in the PM and AM returns are charged a half day rate.

There is an additional fee for puppies (up to 18-24 months) and for special needs i.e. geriatric care, insulin shots, etc. Rates vary between locations.

Transportation Rates

There is a round trip transportation fee. The specific amount varies by location.

Our fees are competitively priced when comparing the level of service you and your furry family member are provided.
