Pet Inns are Homes Away from Home

    Pets Are Inn is a franchised service that places pets in carefully screened private homes where they are treated as one of the family when their own families are out of town. This home away from home allows pets to bring their favorite toys, blankets and treats to keep them comfortable.
    For not much more than the cost of a kennel, Pets Are Inn offer pick-up and delivery service as well as careful matching of pets to caretakers. Criteria include such factors as what other pets are in the house, whether there are children, and if a pet is accustomed to sleeping with its owner.
    The Pets Are Inn system was founded in 1982 when Jim and Ann Platt, a Minneapolis couple, discovered that the family pet did not do well when boarded in a kennel. The first franchise was sold in 1986.
    Today, there arefranchises from Florida to California, as well as one in Hawaii. Pets Are Inn franchises are available to most states. The franchise fee includes a five-day training program as well as on-going corporate support of each home-based business.
